Mathews, A.E.; Pencil Sketches of Colorado. 1866. Nolie Mumey reprint of 1961. Typical Mumey slip case. This is a reprint of perhaps the most famous illustrative work in Colorado history. The sketches of early Colorado mining camps and scenes are today, in some cases, the only tell-tale proof of their existence. Mumey was a die-hard Colorado collector who reprinted many of the early Colorado works, especially the guide books for the 1858-9 Pikes Peak rush. These reprints allowed scholars and casual historians alike to acquire and use these valuable references that were otherwise locked up and out of touch.
