A trio of ephemera from Pennsylvania that includes: a pictorial booklet by Rand McNally & Co., "Penn. R.R. - Illustrated," which features 12 photographs of the Pennsylvania Railroad; a Pittsburgh Soldiers & Sailors Club business card; and The People's Store, Pittsburg's, Spring Millinery Opening trade card. All from about the turn of the century.
The Pennsylvania Railroad was established in 1846 and headquartered in Philadelphia. It reached its peak in 1882, and in 1968, the Pennsylvania Railroad merged with New York Central and the railroad eventually went by the name of Penn Central Transportation Company. Bankruptcy forced the railroad company to sell its assets in 1976 to Consolidated Rail Corporation, or Conrail, and in 1999 Conrail was purchased and split up between the Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX Transportation.
