This company owned 9 square miles of mineral lands on the south shore of Lake Superior. The claim was known as No. 41 and was made in the name of Richard Adams, according to the prospectus and articles of incorporation. "Copper in a pure state has been discovered on this location, and it is confidently believed, that a thorough exploration of the district , will develop resources equal to any mining district in the Lake Superior country." The same prospectus highlights the success of the Lake Superior Company as a way of trying to sell interest in this venture. A June 15th, 1846 Daily National Pilot newspaper article reports from the mine that there are "immense masses of copper and silver ore...piled upon the bank, ready for shipment." The article details the various claims of the company: three lie near the Eagle River; four near the Presque Isle River; and three square miles on the Ontanagen River. Company president David Rittenhouse Porter was the ninth Governor of Pennsylvania and served from 1839 to 1845.
