Number 2128 for two shares to John Strohm. Datelined San Francisco 1864. Signed by secretary HJ Read and president James M Pattee, Incorporated in December of 1863. Not cancelled. 25c Certificate Revenue Stamp. Vignette of large milling operation. Location at "Monitor District, Alpine County, Kate Amador, California." No printer. Assessment stamp in red on cert. Some taping on back - seems to be museum quality tape. Nice looking in front. This would be a re-organization of WIlliam Heffley's rather notorious sue of the mine and its stock. JM Pattee of New York wrote a glowing report about the mines in California and Nevada in a New York newspaper. Obviously he was drumming up business. He said the present appearance of the People' Gold and Silver Mines, are equal to the most celebrated mines in California and Nevada. He goes on to say that it is on the same mountain as Gold Hill and Virginia City mines. But this is a California mine. Is he just carrying on the scam started by Heffley? Were their two seperate mines with the same name and the same president? Sounds fishy to us. [Thank you to Karen Dustman, local historian and author of the book "Silver Mountain City" (Clairitage Press) for background information on the mine and signatures.] Prag Collection State: California City: Silver Mountain, Monitor District Date: 1865
