Nice early, color pass issued for 1871 to Samuel Ross of the PC& St. Luis Railroad. Signed by superintendent Edward Hudson. Black print, white underprint date, green background, and detailed vignette of locomotive at depot. Printed by Rand, McNally & Co. Soiling. Inc. in 1863. Took over the Illinois River Railroad route from Virginia, IL to Pekin, IL. The company bought a line from Pekin to Peoria from the Peoria and Hannibal Railroad in May 1868, and in 1869 the road was extended southwest to the Toledo, Wabash and Western Railway at Jacksonville. Eventually became part of the Chicago, Peoria and St. Louis Railroad.
