This beautiful letter was written to Naval Surgeon George Clymer aboard the USS Cyane in 1842, signed by his wife Mary. The letter is folded and sealed with wax and perfectly legible in a woman's handwriting. The Cyane left Norfolk, sailed around Cape Horn and later to Monterey, California. Mrs. Clymer had a lot to cover with her absent husband. Naval surgeon George Clymer would have met John C. Fremont aboard the sloop of war Cyane while at war with Mexico and taking possession of Monterey in 1842. 8 in. X 10 in. Please see photo for details.
