Rare. No. 255, issued to inventor CS Pettengill for 20 shares on March 9th, 1858 in New York. Signed by the president and secretary. Also signed at the bottom by CS Pettengill. Not cancelled. Black border and print. Great vignette of the revolver at top center. Vignette of man with anvil on the left border. Reverse has 4 revenue stamps from a stock transfer much later. 7.75 x 9.5" Folds, rough bottom right border. CS Pettengill received patents for his "hammerless" double action only revolvers in the 1850s and 1860s. Three sizes were produced: a pocket model, a "navy" size, and a larger .44 "army" version. The guns were manufactured by Rogers, Spencer & Co. of Willowvale, New York.
