No. 1252, issued for 100 shares to company secretary, Bette Paul on Sept. 7th, 1852, in Philadelphia. Not cancelled. Signed by president Pearson Servill and secretary Paul. Vignette of miners working at the surface. Ornate logo and border. Printed by E. Grattan. 7.5 x 9.5 inches. Folds, very fine. This appears to be the first of a series of mining investments made by Philadelphia parties in Western mines. This is one of only three mining ventures of the 1850s that was "hands on" for John C. Fremont.
