This stock has serious condition issues, but the story is priceless. Number 32 issued to John Pullen(?). One share equalled five feet. Signed by secretary F. Voltz and president Jacob Young Jr. Christian Bauer Voltz and Ferdinand Zingraff claimed a lot in Virginia City on September 23, 1861. [The Records of Carson County, Utah & Nevada Territories" by Ellison] This is three weeks before this stock was issued. That gives this stock proviancne. Jacob Young Jr. organized the Young American Engine Company No. 2 in Virginia City on March 19, 1862. Engine Company No. 1 was made of of more upper class persons and Young's company was made up of working men. They were generally referred to as 'The Boys.' There was great tension between these two companies and a fight during a fire lead to a death and even greater animosity! What a great signature piece. The stock itself has two holes in the middle of the paper. The edges have been worn away over the last 150 years. Writing is strong. HWAC# 60942 Date: Location: Virginia City, Nevada
