District Recorder's book for the Philadelphia Mining District at Belmont, Nevada. 1907-8. Binding missing, new professional replacement binding present. pp259-478. The first pages have been converted to an active index (period). The Philadelphia District was one of the most important districts in central Nevada, so much so, that the county court house of Nye was established there in the early days, with a beautiful brick courthouse built in 1876 that still stands today. The silver from Belmont began to fade away in the 1890's along with much mining throughout Nevada. But the Tonopah-Goldfield discoveries of the first three years of 1900 caused the county to move their seat to Tonopah, which saw huge gold-silver production. As a result, all the county recording went to Tonopah, and the local Belmont miners had to establish a satellite system of recording mining claims until someone or official could make the approximate 50 mile trip to Tonopah, which would have taken about 2 days by horse. District recorder records are very rare, each unique. Date: Location: Belmont, Nevada HWAC# 63511
