This is the most sought after check out of Virginia City. Philip Deidesheimer was the man who devised square cut timbering that allowed miners to create three dimensional cavities of any size while looking for Comstock gold and silver. He began his career in 1852 in the California Gold Rush in places like Georgetown. He carried on the Comstock was still part of the Utah Territory. He was most closely associated with the Ophir Mill, but the handful of signed papers from him come from a short time period on Gould & Curry checks.

If the signature is highly collectable, so is the check. It is a beautiful green on white with fancy scroll work. There is an imprinted Nevada 2c revenue stamp on the far left. Also an imprinted orange 2c United States Revenue Stamp. It is made out to Peter Savage for $92.00. (Potter Collection)
