A photograph of a young woman dressed like a bandit, holding a revolver, c1890. The photograph was labeled and came with information regarding Pearl Hart, a notorious Canadian stage coach robber. Although there is a likeness to Hart, the photograph can't be verified as there is no record of it online. Black and white photo 4.5" x 6.5" on 8" x 10" mat. Discounted due to inability to verify.
It's reported that Hart, who along with her husband at the time, Joe Boot, absconded with over $400 in the heist, gave each passenger $1 back before fleeing. Hart was quoted at her acquittal in 1899, “I shall not be tried under a law in which my sex had no voice in making.” The judge was furious at the acquittal and retried Hart with a new jury, for unlawful possession of a revolver. The new verdict in Pearl’s case was a conviction and she was sentenced to five years in prison. Her husband was not as lucky and received 30 years but escaped prison two years later never to be seen again. Pearl was paroled a year later, in 1902. [ 1890
