Collage illustration of the Union Smelting Co., Leadville, Colo., by William Henry Jackson, circa 1880s, according to writing on plastic holder. May be an architectural rendering. No information can be found about the smelting co., although the Union Mining and Leasing Co. existed in the 1890s. Includes six different views of the exterior and interior of the plant and a quote by William R. Harp, general manager, on front, "Public Patronage is Essential to the Maintenance of Competition." "W.J. Jackson Photograph and Publishing Co. Landscape Photographers. Denver, Colorado." on rear. Jackson, 1843-1942, is best known as one of the most renowned 19th Century landscape photographers of the West, but he is also well-known for his artistic works in various mediums. About 7" x 4.5".
