Extra rare. Inc. in Pennsylvania, March 31st, 1864. No. 528, issued for 200 shares to Joseph Duckett on Sept. 22nd, 1866 in Philadelphia. Signed by Ward B. Haseltine as president and George P. Kimball as secretary. Not cancelled. Ornate logo and border, blue print on white paper. 25 cent revenue stamp attached at bottom left with tied cancel. Stamp is covering printer's name. Folds, some wear to edges. Very fine. 7 x 10.75" Briefly mentioned by Hollister (1867). In his section on Park County mines in the Montgomery District, he mentions a Philadelphia-based company called "The Pioneer" organized in 1864 on "scattered lode property." After they built a mill-building but had to move it--Hollister refers to this as "some pretty costly bungling"--they began work in 1866. Capt. Daniel Plummer is their agent.
