Extra rare. Inc. in Pennsylvania, March 31st, 1864. No. 157, issued for 100 shares to John C. Da Costa Jr. on May 16th, 1864 in Philadelphia. Signed by HR Linderman as president and Thomas Linexon as secretary. Not cancelled. Ornate logo and border, blue print on white paper. 25 cent revenue stamp attached at bottom right. Folds, some wear to edges. Very fine. 7 x 10.75" Briefly mentioned by Hollister (1867). In his section on Park County mines in the Montgomery District, he mentions a Philadelphia-based company called "The Pioneer" organized in 1864 on "scattered lode property." After they built a mill-building but had to move it--Hollister refers to this as "some pretty costly bungling"--they began work in 1866. Capt. Daniel Plummer is their agent. [Hollister, pg. 298]
