Soapstone sculpture of standing bear balancing on ice by Levi Alasuak. 5.5” x 4.5” x 4.25”. Levi started carving at the age of eleven, and learned by watching other carvers. Levi’s brother, Simiuni Aullalu, is a carver. “We don’t carve the way our fathers did but our carvings still talk about the way we live and how our fathers and grandfathers lived and worked.” (Excerpt courtesy Inuit Art Section, Indian and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC), 1997).
