Two documents from the Portage County Court of Common Pleas, written in 1818. The pages document a legal dispute between John Campbell and James Hezlip. Campbell was one of the first permanent settlers of Portage County; the book 'History of Portage County, Ohio' by R.C. Brown and J.E. Norris describes the journey that Campbell and his companions made on foot from Connecticut to Ohio in 1800. According to these historians, he "remained throughout his life one of the leading citizens of the county". [ Ohio
