"Butte Co., Cal." printed above vignette. Inc. Aug. 24th, 1863. No. 92, issued to J Chappie for 5 shares on July 6th, 1864. Signed by president Victor B. Maslon(?) and secretary Thos. Callan. Not cancelled. Black border and print, with a nice vignette of a mine. Lithography by Drouaillet, SF. Toning. 5.5 x 9" The mines in Butte County were generally centered around Table Mountain, which has a basalt layer that covers an important gold bearing Tertiary gravel. Important companies of the period included the Oregon Gulch, Cherokee Blue Gravel. Other mines were located at Forbestown, Wyandotte, Bangor and a few other locales. Raymond's 1867 treatise does not mention the Porter, even though it discusses the active mines of the 1864 period. According to a May 19th, 1866 mention in the Weekly Butte Record, the company was located on Jordan Hill.
