Portland Mining Company. No 56, issued for 2,500 shares on Feb. 25th, 1889. Not cancelled. Ornate border. Upper right corner repaired with modern piece. It is signed by company president George B. Markle who was an influential business man in Oregon and Idaho. According to the University of Idaho's Archives, "Between 1890 and 1895 the original Portland Mining Company developed a property on the west slope of Sunset Peak, but the zinc ores exposed in the Silver Tip tunnel proved valueless because there was no proper method of separation from the lead associated with them."
