Photograph portrait of Reverend A.R. Coopman, who began his work in territorial Montana where churches were sparse and struggling. He spent his first year (1888) in Helena reaching out to surrounding areas and towns. He founded the First Catholic Church at Great Falls in 1889 before being transferred to Bozeman. He constructed 2 more churches before taking charge of St. Peter's church in Anaconda, paying off its $4000 debt, and completing it along with a parochial school over 13 years in Anaconda.
