Lot of 2. 1) Photo of the interior of a brewery saloon: notice the beer barrels/kegs on the right side of the photo and the rows of beer bottles on the left behind the bartender. All the beer on the wall was for retail sale. You can also see a trade stimulator on the counter. The back of the photo has the identification of "Virginia City Nev 1898 Willie Marks." William H. Marks worked for Con Ahern at the Crystal Bar and eventually took over ownership in 1913 when Ahern died (see Fred Holabird's Coins of the Comstock). The young man in the photo does bear a resemblance to Marks when compared to other known photos, but it is not perfect. Virginia City did have the Nevada Brewery and Virginia Brewery, as well as numerous others later on. It is unclear if Marks ever worked at one of these breweries before bartending at the Crystal. Photo is 4.75 x 7", detached from old matte. More research is needed to confirm or deny the identification on the back. 2) Rare RPPC c.1905 view of the Crystal Bar in Virginia City with Con Ahern and William Marks behind the bar (on the right). Not mailed.
