Two page hand written letter from August 28, 1892, addressed to famous US Marshall R. H. Paul. Paul was the US Marshall that refused to arrest Wyatt Earp and brothers (two of which had been US Marshalls) after the OK Corral when Sheriff Behan ordered it (Behan a fan of the Clantons). In this letter on printed illustrated stationery from the Mohawk Ranch Co. at Mammoth, Arizona, the proprietor (Solomon Israel), tells US Marshall Paul of a robbery to their company store, which housed a US Post Office, in which $135 was stolen from the Post Office. The writer had strong suspicions on who stole the money, and suggests a "sting" operation to catch the thief, and asks Paul if he can "send a man to play the cowboy".

This is a classic letter regarding a Post Office robbery to one of the most famous of all western lawmen.

Mammoth was a mining camp established in 1876 on the west bank of the San Pedro River in Pinal County. Today it has about 1700 people.
