Note certifies that one dollar has been deposited with the Postal Savings System. Series of 1917, earning 2 % per annum, payable at the depository office Astoria, Oregon. Serial number A 630. Nice condition, crease lower right corner. The Postal Savings System was a way for Americans to save for those who did not have bank accounts. These Deposit Certificates came in various dollar denominations up through $500. The System was discontinued in 1966 and any claims for redemption made after July 13, 1985 have not been honored.
