Postal Savings System note issued at San Francisco, California May 19, 1936. The depositor was Jennie E. Mannula and her depositor's account card is included. The Postal Savings System was a way for Americans to save for those who did not have bank accounts. These Deposit Certificates came in various dollar denominations up through the $500 denomination, and there were a couple of different series through the years of their existence. The System was discontinued in 1966 and any claims for redemption made after July 13, 1985 have not been honored. The $1 note is in AU condition.
