Pots O' Gold by Matt R. Penrose. A. Carlisle & Co. of Nevada, Reno, 1935. First edition. Original black cloth, gold stamping on front cover and spine, front is. 233 pp., illustrated, introduction, prologue. The author was the Warden of the Nevada State Prison. He writes about the first notorious convict in the new prison, the first train robbery in history, the last stage hold-up, etc. Penrose writes in a lively style of the backgrounds of the men that came to his prison such as Sam Brown (who thought he had pumped enough lead into Van Sykle to finish him off)--the Warden's last chapter shows he had a balance between tough law enforcement with a concern that society recognize the causes of crime. One of these copies is signed by Penrose. Both books in good condition, spines on both are faded. City: State: Nevada Date: 1935 Inventory# 39579
