The 100th anniversary of John Wesley Powell's expedition through the Grand Canyon resulted in this commemorative set of three matte silver medals for each of the states he passed through: Wyoming, Utah and Arizona. Housed in a plastic case, with a map of the Expedition beginning in Green River, Wyoming and ending in Arizona. Coins are 1.25 inches in diameter and have the Great Seal of each state and a portrait of Powell on the reverse. The expedition surveyed and mapped the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon. Powell lost his right arm at the Battle of Shiloh but navigated the Colorado single handedly.
