Lot of 20. Range in size from 7”x 3.5” to 7” x 4.5.” Low to medium contrast and focus is sharp. Some wear. The Stereo views show the Native Peoples of the Southern U.S. and the surrounding landscapes. 19 of the stereo views were produced and published by J.F. Jarvis. Caption on the back reads “entered according to Act of Congress, in the year 1874, by J.W. Powell, in the Office of the Librarian of Congress, at Washington.” Several of the Natives pictured are Southern Paiute, and they are also shown in Native dress. J.W. Powell led a series of expeditions through the Colorado River area between 1867 and 1872. He was one of the first to explore and document the area with photography [Ref: http://digital.boisestate.edu].
