A typed letter, dated July 13, 1954, on Office of the Vice President letterhead with official seal, which includes an official VP card signed and dated by then Vice President Richard Nixon. The letter is a reply to Edwin R. Loughrey, Mountain Lakes, N.J., for his request for Nixon's autograph. "You may be sure he appreciates your interest in writing to him and was pleased to autograph the enclosed card for you," reads the letter, signed by Robert D. Ladd, Executive Secretary to the Vice President. The letter measures 7" x 9" and the card 4" x 2.25". The card is printed in script "The Vice President," signed "Richard Nixon," with the date "7/13/54" written in the same ink in the upper right corner. Richard Nixon was a member of the House of Representatives and a U.S. Senator from California before becoming the 36th Vice President of the United States, in office 1953 - 1961, serving under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was sworn in as the 37th President of the U.S. on Jan. 20, 1969 until Aug. 9, 1974, during his second term, when he became the only president to resign from office due to the Watergate Scandal.
