This display contains points, arrows, a spear, and shell money from Central California. An interesting collection because it contains regional pieces. The points are recognized as: Desert Deltas, Stockton Side Notches, and Eagle Lake Multi-Notches. There are several points with multiple side notches similar to the Eagle Lake Multi-Notches but found considerably further south. This non-scientific description is a collector's description and may explain that central coast Indians used this pattern as well. The shells displayed are a considerable quantity indicating they were used not only as decoration but also as currency. These shells are thought to be of the species Saxidomus which are found only from San Francisco to Baja. The local tribes then would likely be: Coastal Miwok, Ohlone, Patwin, Pomo, and Wappo. The distribution of all pieces collected indicate that the likely tribe would be the Ohlone tribe. The spear has been painted for decoration, good luck, or ease of retrieval. Some pieces are missing from the display. 17 in. X 53 in. framed. Regional at AD 1500 to present. All pieces found on private land. Over 190 pieces in all. Please see photo for details.
