Promissory Note, issued to Jas. W. Drake for $40 on Oct 8, 1863 in French Corral, Nevada County, CA. Signed by Silos Heath. 3x blue, adhesive 2 cents US IR stamps. Handwritten note, stamps hand cancelled. According to Wiki: "French Corral is an unincorporated community approximately five miles west of California State Highway 49 in Nevada County, CA. It was one of the first of several historic California gold rush mining camps along the San Juan Ridge. The name was literal as the town grew around a mule corral built by the first settler in the area, a Frenchman, in 1849.[2] It had a post office during the period of 1859 through 1945."Garvis Collection.
