Deed for property in Washington D.C. between the Government of His Majesty the King of Italy by his Excellency Don Gelasio Caetani, Minister Plenipotentiary of Said Government at Washington D.C., and Mary F. Henderson. Three pages. Signature of Don Gelasio Caetani. Caetani (1877-1934), born in the noble Caetani family, was an Italian mining engineer, World War I officer, mayor of Rome, and Italian ambassador. He studied mining and metallurgy at Columbia University. After graduating, he spent many years in the West "where he continued his studies of mining engineering in the most practical way, without his identity being known to his fellow miners." During World War I, he was a Colonel in the Italian Engineers and "accomplished, at one blast, the destruction of the top of Col dei Lana, as well as the Austrian stronghold on its summit, which, until that time, had blocked the Italian invasion of the Upper Trentino by way of the Cardevole Pass." In 1922, he was made ambassador to the United States. [Ref: Columbia Alumni News, Volume 12, 1920]
