This rather nondescript type written 8 x 7" note is about one of the earliest, and most important, nationwide strikes and leads us directly to Nevada's roll in it. It is addressed to the sheriff of Lander County. The letter is from AN Towne, Second Vice President and General Manager of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Although no date is mentioned, we know it is from 1894. The letter tells the sheriff that the railroad expects his full cooperation in helping with "...movement of trains is being prevented by force and violence and our property is being damaged..." This was the great Pullman Strike of 1894. TEN PAGES of background on the strike as told day-to-day in Reno newspaper articles. City: Austin, Lander State: Nevada Date: 1894
