Rare Nevada mining location. Dateline Reno. Number 46 for 500 shares to Alvaro Evans in 1883. Signed by brother Pierce Evans and president Chauncey Derby. Allegorical vignette of female with bow. No edge, corner or discoloration issues. One pin hole upper right in border. Folds. Stated on certificate is Location of Works: Pyramid Mining District, Washoe County. Alvaro Evans was a key Nevada rancher and Pyramid Lake area mining investor. He had large ranching concerns in Humboldt County (Golconda) and Reno. Chancellor Derby also had large ranching concerns in Humboldt County and Reno. He ran a livery stable in Virginia City during its heyday, ran for mayor of the city, and was a state representative. The Pyramid Lake Mining Company was incorporated May 1, 1883. The mine was worked by 1884. The Pyramid Mining District is located SW of Pyramid Lake. Discovered in the 1860s, it didn't get much attention until the Monarch Mine was located in 1876.
