An unusual specimen from the South African locality which has become famous for producing "Cactus" quartz clusters. This specimen features a "Japan-Law" Twinned Quartz Crystal which has been completely overgrown by the same druzy quartz crystals which are seen in "Cactus" quartz. The "Japan-Law" of quartz twinning is the only common twin-law of quartz where the two twin crystals are visible as individuals. In a Japan-Law twin the c-axis of two crystals meet at an angle of 84°33', with two of the m prism faces of both crystals being parallel. The result is usually a V-shaped twin, often the Japan-Law twin looks tabular, because the crystal grows faster between the two arms. This is a exceptional quartz specimen in excellent condition. Dimensions (cm): 9.5 H x 8 W x 3 D. Location: Boekenhoutshoek area, Mkobola, Nkangala District, Mpumalanga Province, South Africa Date: Location: South Africa HWAC# 53033
