Very rare; we have no records of selling this in the last 11 years. Properties, including the Silver King, in the Rush Valley District of Tooele County, Utah (Ogden Standard-Examiner, June 4, 1883). Inc. in Utah Territory. No. 188, issued for 550 shares to Algernon Joy in 1884. Signed by president Godbe and the treasurer. Not cancelled. Mine and railroad vignettes. Pinholes, folds, creases, a few stains. 7.25 x 10" William S, Godbe, one of the first band of Mormons to arrive in Utah, was born at London in 1833, the son of Sarah LaRiviere and Samuel Godbe. He was baptized in England in 1850, then immigrated to the Salt Lake Valley in 1851 at age 18. Godbe settled at Salt Lake City and married Ann Thompson in 1855, although he participated in plural marriage. He became a merchant who hauled freight more than 50 times between 1857 and 1884. He served as counselor to Bishop Edwin D. Woolley, but was excommunicated in 1869. He quickly founded the Church of Zion (Godbeites), circa 1869-1880s. Godbe also published the Utah Magazine and the Salt Lake Tribune, as well as investing in major Utah mines and a railroad at Pioche, Nevada. He died at Brighton, Salt Lake County, in 1902.
