This is CERTIFICATE #1 and a very rare stock (per Holabird Western Americana). Rare Northumberland district. Issued for 1,770 shares to OP James. Signed by George Lear and OP James as president. Dateline August 10, 1867. Incorporated in Pennsylvania. One mining vignette on left. Center has two magnificent stallions and an eagle vignette. Wm. F. Murphy & Sons printer. 25c Certificate Revenue stamp. One vertical fold, one pinhole and dog ears are all that mar this certificate. [Trimmed slightly at edges to better fit in a binder.] There are conflicting reports as to the district the Quinterro was in. The Annual Mining Directory lists the Philadelphia district. The Territorial Enterprise the Northumberland district? Their first bar of silver was produced in 1868 and there were immediately three lawsuits. It seemed that they had liabilities over $20,000. [Territorial Enterprise] James and Lear were lawyers. Notes on the Northumberland district and 2 pages of notes on the Quinterro. City:Belmont, Nye Co. State:Nevada Date:1867
