1863 Unusual and extremely rare document, notarized with Union Seal. This hand-written and signed Deed dictates the sale of Lot # 7 on the city blocks in Austin, on September 11th, 1863, for the sum of $50.00. The reverse side, under the heading "Deed," is signed by "Neil Frost & Co. To Hans Jensen." The signature of "E.S. Pani, Recorder," is below. The printer, listed at the bottom, is Bernard Franz, Virginia City. FH believes this to be one of the earliest documents printed in Virginia City. Folded out, this document measures 14"x8.5". It is in very good to excellent condition. The town of Austin was founded in 1862 as part of a silver rush. By 1863, Austin and the surrounding Reese River Mining District had a population of over 10,000. Today Austin is a "Living Ghost Town."
