1) Famous Red Top check with an underprint Red Top from Jumbo. 2) 1897 Montgomery Wells Fargo Check, 1873. 3) McLaughlin & Ryland Austin Check. 4) Pine Creek, Nevada 1915 Payable at the Ely National Bank. 5) Kingston, Sterling Silver Mining Company Check (Payroll). 1865. 6) Bank of Rawhide 1908. Signed by EW King. 1) One of the most famous checks in Nevada. The Red Top Mining Company with a Red Top spinning in the middle of the check. 1906. Jumbo,. Nevada 2) Very rare location. The post office was only open from 1891 to 1894. Only one cover has ever been found from here. Montgomery is 16 miles north of Pahrump. Check is embossed Jno. M. Cannon, Lessee, Sterling Mines. Signed by Samuel Godbe. Godbe was a mining engineer from Salt Lake City. More notes on Godbe, Montgomery and the Lost Breyfogle Mine included. Wells Fargo check is from Salt Lake City. This bank check begs two questions. Who were McLaughlin & Ryland? They were major bankers in San Jose. Ryland was a significant historical person in the first years of California statehood. 2)What were they doing in Austin? They must have been exploring opening a branch in this rich silver town. However, information is hard to find, so I assume they weren't there long and weren't a major financial player. Background information included. 4) So rare it is hard to find mention of this location. There are lots of Pine Creeks in Nevada, but the only one with a post office was in Nye County. and that post office was open 35 years before this document. 5) For labor on mine and at bunker. 6) Rawhide Coalition Mines Company imprint. King was a major player in Rawhide. Rawhide was basically a mining camp from 1906 to 1908.
