Olds to manufacture autos, buses and trucks. Ransom Eli Olds (June 3, 1864 – August 26, 1950) was American automotive industry pioneer. Both Oldsmobile and REO brands were named after him. Olds claimed to have built his first steam car as early as 1887 and his first gasoline-powered car in 1896. C*redited with the 1st modern assembly line. He used the concept to build the 1st mass-produced automobile, the Oldsmobile Curved Dash, beginning in 1901. REO Motor Car Co merged and its successor was Diamond Reo Trucks.
