The town was riginally named La Rinconada de Los Gatos (the cat's corner) by early settlers who would hear screams of mountain lions during their evening hunt.

This is a collection of RPC's and postcards of the iconic symbol of the town, located along Highway 17 between San Jose and Santa Cruz.

For some reason, the symbolic cat statues shown in the photos and still there today, are not of mountain lions, but bobcats, which is more accurate according to stories of settlers watching two of these felines fighting in an area that became the townsite. As one who lived near the town, I recall this story being told more often.

Besides images of the cats, There's railroad ticket from the area, a winery label and some business cards. Please see photos for more detail and condition.
