Postcard Photograph of the Famous Placer Gold locale - Rabbit Creek in 1911. The photo shows the creek with a thick blanket of snow surrounding it, forest in the background. Addressed to Mrs. C.H. Cayot in La Porte, CA. Stamped in Oakland, CA on Aug 18, 1911, adhesive, green one cent US postage stamp in top right corner (back). Signed by Edith G., a kind message written on the back. The family Cayot (Francois and Mary Josephine) moved to Rabbit Creek in 1855, were they built Hotel de France. In 1868 the fire destroyed the hotel, it was rebuilt and renamed Union Hotel. Son Celestin kept the hotel bar open until 1871, but then moved away. In 1884, after another burn down, their other son Frank, rebuilt and operated the hotel until his death in 1920. His wife Claire Hinda Cayot took over business until 1934. She must have resided for a while in La Porte in 1911, before returning to Rabbit Creek, to run the hotel with her husband.
