The infamous "racketeer nickel": 1883 Liberty nickel, gold plated to pass as a five dollar gold piece. Elegantly mounted in a red Capitol Plastics case. Brilliant uncirculated condition. When the Liberty Head nickel made its debut in 1883, it featured a "V" on the reverse but no indication of denomination. Con men quickly gold plated them and passed them off a five dollar gold pieces. Soon the U. S. Mint added the word "cents" to the coin and they continued to be minted until 1913. A beautiful example of a famous American coin!
