Railroad pass for the Rio Grande, Sierra Madre and Pacific Railroad #B449 (1905) issued to S. W. Kaufmann, VP of the Manistique, Marquette & Northern RR. The RGSM&PRR operated in northern Mexico from Ciudad Juarez (just across the border from El Paso, Texas) to Chihuahua. After 1909 it was known as the Compania del Ferrocarril Nor-Oeste de Mexico. The line served logging and mining interests, and the latter made it the target of raids by Mexican revolutionary Pancho Villa, who held a Wells Fargo employee on the train for ransom in 1913 and killed 18 Americans employed by ASARCO in 1916. Those incidents were the motivation for US President Woodrow Wilson to send General John Pershing on the Punitive Expeditions into Mexico in an unsuccessful attempt to capture Villa. So much story to tell in one little card.
