A letter from J.B. Warner, chief inspector of the Pacific Coast Department of the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company, sent during the 1890s. In the letter, Warner warns that the highest pressure allowable for a train's boiler is 138 pounds, and that "we would all be liable to arrest" if the pressure was exceeded and something went wrong. The letterhead bears the seal of the Hartford Steam Boiler Co., which features an intricate etching of a train. Interesting look into early safety regulation of railroads. [ San Francisco California
