Vignette of 2 women 1 with scale and other with flag with shield between them with sun behind with sail boats. 1st use of the name Rambler for American-made automobile dates to 1897. Thomas B. Jeffery, Chicago, IL and Rambler bicycle builder, built 1st automobile prototype for Rambler. Jeffery entered automobile business after positive reviews at 1899 Chicago International Exhibition & Tournament and 1st National Automobile Show in NYC. In 1900, he bought the old Sterling Bicycle Co. factory in Kenosha, WI, and began production. Jeffery started commercially mass-producing automobiles in 1902 and by the end of the year had produced 1,500 motorcars, one-sixth of all existing in the USA at the time. Behind, Oldsmobile, Thomas B. Jeffery Co, second largest auto manufacturer at that time. 1st company to sell cars with spare wheel-and-tire assembly.
