Rare location. Inc. in Pennsylvania in 1867. No. 217, issued for 30 shares to CH Hunter on December 3rd, 1867. Signed by the president, A.O. Hiester, and secretary, Stephen Miller. Not cancelled.Nice vignette at the top of a busy surface scene at a mine including a windlass and mill. Also Pennsylvania seal at the bottom left and eagle on patriotic shield at upper right. Printed by John Alexander, Philadelphia.Folds, some toning. The Old Dominion was located in the Hot Creek District and the most active of the early producing mines there. In 1869, they received more than $11,000 from just 111 tons of ore! Hot Creek was organized in 1866. Unlike many Nevada mining camps, it actually had abundant wood, water and grass. The name came from a few hot springs that warmed the creeks. The mine appears to have gone dormant after 1870 when the near surface ores were exhausted. [Ref: Stretch, Raymond] Additional information on the mine and mining district is included. Also Nevada historical backgrounds on the names on the certificate are included.
