This flag is made with 37 stars to include Nebraska with an interesting star pattern in very good condition. The flag company logo patch is sewn near a bottom grommet. Nebraska was admitted to the Union on March 1, 1867 and the 37th state was recognized for ten years before another state was added. However, our flag follows no known 37 star pattern. What is now known as the "Grand Luminary" or "Great Star" pattern became official by July, 1867. So, it indicates that this flag was made prior to the great star pattern was made official, which was a common practice among flag manufacturers to stay competitive. Our flag has a diamond star pattern in the center with border stars added to complete the 37 count. The 37 star flag is already a rare flag as the 38 star flag was flown celebrating the 1877 Centennial with Colorado added later in that year. This flag is rare and may have been made between March and July of 1867. Hand sewn stars, 48 in.X 90 in. Please see photo for details.
