Lot of 3 different. 1) Markleeville Flume Company. Exceptionally rare. Bank of California, purple print, true brown RN-D. Issued in 1874 to John Weise. Signed by HM Yerington (of Virginia & Truckee Railroad fame). Spindle cancel. Incorporated in 1875 by H. M. Yerington, J. W. Haynie and A. J. Ralston. The company's major areas of operation were in Lake Valley, El Dorado County, California; Hope Valley, Alpine County, California; and in Ormsby, Douglas, and Washoe counties, Nevada. 2) El Dorado Wood & Flume Co. Very rare. Issued to the Virginia & Truckee Railroad in 1876. Blue print, Wells Fargo, Carson, Nev. dateline. RN-D. Spindle cancel. The company's flume came into the valley at Brown's Station and Washoe City. The company also owned timber lands in Markleeville/Hope Valley. 3) Genoa Fluming Company. Wells Fargo, Carson, Nev. dateline. Issued in 1876. RN-D. Spindle cancel. According to the Carson Valley News (Nov. 31, 1876), "The Genoa Flume Co. have done Genoa Canyon. They commenced operations three years ago, and during the intervening time have flumed 52,700 cords of wood from that mountain gorge down the Carson river to Empire." Wood was milled at Empire and then shipped up for use in the mines at Virginia City & Gold Hill.
