D. B. Immel & Co. of San Francisco bank on an imprinted D. B. Immel & co. check. Datelined Eureka, Nev. Joseph Mendes is paying himself $100. Water stain on lower right. Made out to "Salfe." Blue 'D. B. Immel' stamp on check. Blue straight line 'Eureka, Nevada' goes through the Immel stamp. Imprinted with an RN-D1 revenue stamp. The Immel Company was associated with the Eureka Consolidated Silver Mining Co and other Austin and Eureka mining ventures of the day. Joseph Mendes owned a liquor / cigar store called "The Tiger" where "The Choicest Wines, Liquors & Cigars Obtainable in the San Francisco Market are constantly on hand." Mendes was an agent for the Boca Brewing Co and was proprietor of the Lyceum and Variety Theater on Main Street, a hot spot in town. The Eureka Consolidated Mining Company was an underground, hard rock mining co operating about two miles from Eureka on Ruby Hill with which Mendes was evidently associated.
