A VERY RARE FINE QUALITY IMPERIAL RUSSIAN FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL, ca. 1740: This “Tula” type French Inspired design has silver and gold decorations on the barrel, mounts and lock. It is in overall fine original flintlock condition. The barrel is round tapered with a wedding-ring cannon-turned muzzle at .60 cal. smooth-bore, 8 1/4" length. The original Flintlock mechanism still functions perfectly and the rock is held with both red felt and sheet lead. This lock also has a WATER-PROOF pan that (in theory would fire upside down and under water). The original hammer has matching engraved surfaces with finely gold wash. The straight-grained Walnut stock is relief carved in baroque and foliate design at the tang. A chased engraved trigger-guard is beautiful with precise mortise outline in the walnut. The two screw mounted side-plate is chased and not engraved for a beautiful three dimensional relief as well as the butt-plate and owner oval at the wrist. Of all very fine overall condition. A fine high quality example of antique craftsmanship at its finest. The overall length is 14 1/2 in.
